INSTORE DISPLAY
Many of the volatile substances that are used for inhaling are stolen rather than purchased so it's important that volatile substances are thoughtfully stored and displayed.
IDENTIFY THOSE PRODUCTS THAT HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE ABUSED.
- Display commonly abused products close to the point of sale
- Display empty or dummy product containers – ask your supplier about these
- Remove aerosol nozzles
- Display products on high shelves or under the counter
- Remove products which may be misused from sale
- Develop special areas where volatile substances can be securely stored (e.g. behind lockable glass or mesh doors).
NEW LAW CHANGE:
On the 26th June 2008 the Summary of Offences (Tagging & Graffiti Vandalism) Amendment Bill was enacted making law to restrict access to spray cans. Spray cans must be stored in such a way that members of the public cannot obtain possession of them without the help of shop staff. Failing to restrict access can result in a penalty fine of up to $1500.
