DEALING WITH DIFFICULT CUSTOMERS

There are lots of things that you can do to help yourself and your staff to deal with the issues created by volatile substance abusers. It's important that there is always a supervisor available who can provide positive back-up should a member of staff need help.

You and your staff need to be able to recognise and communicate with suspected substance users. If someone you are suspicious of comes into the store, keep an eye on them and alert your supervisor.

WHEN DEALING WITH A DIFFICULT CUSTOMER:

NEW LAW CHANGE:

On the 26th June 2008 the Summary of Offences (Tagging & Graffiti Vandalism) Amendment Bill was enacted making it illegal to sell spray cans to people under 18 years of age. If unsure, retailers should ask for an evidence of age document. The law is subject to conditions for buyers who can prove they are enrolled in schools or institutions where the spray can will enable him/her to complete an assignment, project or course work.
